A lot of good and bad things grew out of the “Mesmeric” movement of the 1700s and 1800s.
The good: We learned to diagnose and treat illnesses while in a state of trance, heal illnesses by the laying of hands and the transfer of what they called “magnetic fluid” and we learned that this state allowed for the easy exchange of negative beliefs with more positive ones.
The bad: We learned that a large percentage of people are highly suggestible, can be remotely controlled, can be made to see and do things at the command of others. Out of 1800s “Magnetic Mesmerism” and Hypnotism grew today’s mind control techniques as deployed by “intelligence agencies”.

Between 1900 and 1940 Mesmerism was “debunked” in an ongoing mass-media campaign and through the publication of misleading and false books on Hypnotism. People lost interest in the subject so that henceforth only secret societies and the “intelligence community” used it.
As with so many things, as far as the public is concerned, it’s “debunked”, but insiders keep using it for their own advantage.
So there you have it: This whole Mesmerism, Magnetism, Hypnotism thing is real and one of the many tools that separate the elite from the non-elite.
FTR: I don’t use trance or hypnotism in my own work. I prefer conscious/awake change and self-determination.
