Prison doesn’t work!
So why do they keep doing something that doesn’t work? Because they’re stuck in old thinking.
The costs of this system are enormous. Taxpayers foot the bill for a felons lodging, food and unsuccessful reintegration programs.
What does work?
Making Amends.
If an inmate is given the opportunity to make amends, to make up for what was done, to give back to the victims or relatives or society, then the prisoner can restore inner wholeness. Without this sense of peace, the prisoner easily slips back into old behavior.
I’m not suggesting labor camps here, but instead of sitting around in a cell, the inmate should be given the opportunity or choice to make, build, create or produce something for the benefit of society. This will reduce recidivism rates.
