If someone treats me unjustly, instead of wasting time feeling victimized, I take positive action toward people who have treated me well.
There have been moments I’ve been defrauded, have had money stolen, been physically and verbally attacked, censored, banned, ostracized and discriminated against for my views.
I respond with positive action. No, not toward the person attempting to hurt me but people who have been good, honest, forthcoming, open or friendly. This changes the energy-dynamic from deprivation to abundance.
When victimized, people normally flow much attention toward the victimizer. This is what the victimizer wants. By instead attending to more deserving people, the victimizer learns his behavior does not earn him or her attention.
Also: Sometimes I am being deprived because I have deprived others. So the first act is to to stop depriving them of attention, support, praise, help, money, time, etc.
Being good to others is probably the hardest when you’re upset. But it’s ridiculously powerful, because it breaks the expected, programmed, auto-response of the Ego.
Is there someone at work who has been ignoring you? Then think of someone else you may have been ignoring and give that person the attention they want.
Has someone failed to give back money they owe? Then think of someone who deserves your money and give it to them.
Is a difficult project causing sleepless nights? The give a different project that has been good to you, more attention.
Did you get shouted at by an unpleasant person? Then send kind words to a few good people.
And watch what happens.
Yes, some situations may still require confronting (the person who owes money) or communication (the person who attacked you at work). But the general rule for my life is to invest most attention, time and care into the people and things that are good. Attention = Reward. Attention = a signal that you want more.
Exercise
1. List people you have felt ignored, insulted or poorly treated by in the last months
2. Write down how you’d prefer to be treated.
3. Give that treatment to three other people. For every one negative treatment give three positive ones, that way the score is always 3-1 for you. Let the Universe know the SCORE!
