I had an ear-infection for 3 weeks. Or so I thought.
3 weeks ago I was returning from swimming a few laps. My hair was wet and I had my car window rolled down at night time temperatures.
The next morning I woke up with an ear infection. The ear felt clogged, there was a pulsating sound and it felt wounded when I put my hand in.
Stupidly sure of myself, I said this will go away in a few days and did nothing. It didn’t go away. By the fourth day I had pain when swallowing.
I tied my red-light-therapy ♨️, it didn’t help.
Finally, on the fifth day I did a series of intentions, commands, prayers 💫. None of it helped.
I then went to a random general doctor to get antibiotics. With utmost confidence I said “I have an ear infection”. The doctor looked into my ear and confirmed: “Yes you do. That’s an easy fix” and prescribed antibiotics 💊.
I took them for 10 days and they did absolutely nothing. I felt like nothing was working.
Meanwhile I was doing dry sauna AND a steam sauna 😓every day because I believed heat would work. I was still operating under the FALSE ASSUMPTION that I had an ear-infection.
None of it was making a difference.
So this time, instead of going to a random doctor, I made an appointment with an ear specialist. She looked into my ear for a minute and said “There’s something stuck in your ear. Let’s pull it out”.
She pulled out a feather 🪶. It had snuck into my ear from a pillow. Immediate relief. I could hear again!
No amount of antibiotics, intending, red-light-therapy, meditation or sauna was going to remove something which I probably could have easily gotten out with a tweezer.
The problem here is one of false assumption. My equation was swimming + cold air = infection. The possibility of a feather going into my ear would not occur to me. It’s not something I’ve ever experienced or heard of and so it didn’t come up as an option.
I like to self-diagnose, don’t put that much trust in doctors. The first doctor I went to lazily misdiagnosed me. But this case is a good example of self-diagnosis gone wrong. I can be stupid sometimes.
Don’t be stupid like me. If you have an area in your life where it seems like nothing is working, even though you’ve tried many things, then BACK UP and look at your assumptions and beliefs about what is actually going on.
Might something be happening that I haven’t even considered? Even if it sounds as crazy as a feather traveling inside an ear?
