Efficiency is the power to achieve greater results with less effort. It’s a sign of high consciousness. The more attitudes decline, the more inefficient things get. An example:
America in the 90s: Call Plumber. Agree on time. Plumber arrives. Fixes issue. Time taken: 30 minutes.
America in the 2020s: Call Plumber. Agree on time. Plumber asks for phone number and email. Sends text message asking me to confirm agreed on time. Sending text to confirm, costs money. Plumber starts sending newsletters by email. I try to opt out and am directed to website asking me to opt out of 10 options. I do so. Pop up comes up and redirects me to question whether I really wish to opt out. I really do.
On day of arrival, plumber sends another text message, asking to confirm. I don’t respond quickly enough because my phone is off. Plumber doesn’t show up because I didn’t respond to his renewed confirmation request. The whole thing is rescheduled and we go through the whole process again.
Plumber finally arrives, looks at issue. Plumber goes to truck and types on i-pad for a long time. Plumber offers normal and premium options on i-pad. Plumber tries to upsell me on a subscription to monthly check up. I decline. Plumber says there will be an extra charge because I declined subscription.
Plumber leaves. Plumbing problem returns after a few hours. I call him again. Instead of saying “OK, I’ll come back tomorrow” he asks me to schedule a new appointment over website, because it needs to “go through the system”. I go through the entire process again. Time taken: Approximately 4 hours.
Another example:
There is a difference between what the public perceives to be a successful sports team and what is actually a successful sports team. In European soccer, Real Madrid is considered to be the most successful team of all time. But the most successful team is one most people have never heard of: FC Porto. That’s the most financially efficient sports team of all time, generating maximum financial and sports success with little means, through smart scouting, buying and selling of players.
Madrid is not financially efficient. They are frequently bailed out of financial troubles (such news doesn’t reach the public much). When looking up rankings of companies and organizations don’t forget to look up who rank as the most EFFICIENT, not just the ones who are PERCEIVED as the most successful.
We have
Perceived Success
vs.
Real Success
I’m an efficiency fanatic, having sold Millions of books, seminars and videos over the last 30 years, without spending a dime on ads, marketing or PR. The perception is that I’m not as successful as others who are world famous, but if you look at EFFICIENCY, I’m thrilled at what I accomplished with little means.
True success: Make much out of little. Something out of nothing. When I started writing, I had no laptop. But I had paper and pencil. I didn’t say “I can’t write because I have no laptop”.
Use what you already have to the fullest and more will be given to you.
If you have to throw a bunch of money, marketing or grueling hard work at something before it succeeds, that’s fine but it’s not as delicious a success as when you achieve it through being creative.
