Nothing is what you think it is

There are movies that seem to be about one thing but are actually about another, where 99% of viewers don’t see the hidden layer because they lack education in certain matters.

One example of this phenomenon are movies by Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, etc.)

Take the 1989 movie “Dead Poets Society”: 99% of viewers think this movie is about teaching children to think for themselves and non-conformity. One arrives at that “educated opinion” with a shallow viewing. This is what the Director intended people to see if they don’t question things or look deeper.

I’m not going to tell you what the movie is actually about because spoon feeding stunts growth in awareness but I will tell you that it’s not what 99% think it is and it’s amazing that some movies are made to reveal other layers once the viewer is ready to see them.

Life itself has this quality. Every consciousness-level reveals a different world. When I was younger I thought that events XYZ had the meaning ABC. But today I see the same events in a radically different light, owing to a shift in consciousness-level.

For instance in my 20s I thought I wanted to work for a certain company and got rejected. So disappointing because I had placed great hopes into that job. Looking back 30 years later it’s clear to me how catastrophic it would have been had I gotten the job – because I’m in a much better place today. How could I have ever thought it desirable?

You can have anything manifest in your life if it’s good for you. We are often deprived of things that are ultimately not good for us. Life works in our favor.

Either you already SEE that or you will someday.

A fool is always self-assured and his thoughts and says this is this and that is that. Once done talking, the world looks exactly as the he said it does. The wise person is slower to categorize and conclude, knowing there are things the mind doesn’t see, meanings yet to be revealed.

Once a deeper layer is revealed, the fool considers himself enlightened compared to others, which he derides. This blind’s his mind to yet another layer behind the new one discovered.

Nothing is what you think it is. It may be similar to what you think it is. Or not. Because thinking is one step removed from pure observation it can never copy or understand reality as is. Thinking and Believing serve their purpose as vehicles of perception, but don’t overestimate your own thoughts as the height of wisdom.
