Have Masuru Emoto’s experiments on Water been replicated?

Masuru Emoto was a Japanese scientist, who said that our words and intentions have an influence on water. He made prayers and intentions on water, then froze the water to examine it’s shape under a microscope. I’ve been aware of his work since the early 2000s. Emoto (what a fitting name!) published his findings in the bestselling book The Hidden Messages in Water.

He passed away in 2014. I was wondering whether his results had ever been replicated independently, outside of his private laboratory. After all, if something is true, then others can prove it too.  I believe and know that words and thoughts influence reality, but I was skeptical that such specific shapes take form. Searching the Internet, I first found several  “fact checkers” that had “debunked” Emoto and were deriding him as a “pseudo-scientist”. This is how Wikipedia treats him:

It says “pseudo-science” twice in the first paragraph, just to make sure.

I eventually found a page on Quora, asking the same question: Have Emotos experiments been replicated?

The top answer on the page this this:

By now, many will walk away deflated. “Oh well, I guess there’s nothing to it all”

But not so quick 🙂 If there is anything I’ve know, it’s that much of this “debunking” is shallow. You need to dig only a little deeper to uncover the truth. Truth is the reward for those investing more attention.

We notice that “Mike”, has nearly 25 000 answers. Wow. He must have answers on almost everything. I clicked on his answers and found a bitter anti-religion nutjob. Thousands upon thousands of posts ranting against God and spiritual matters.

Obviously, someone with an axe to grind, is not going to apply fair measure to Masuru Emoto or anything spiritual.

I found no evidence that Emoto said he “picked the photos that looked right”. The answer could just as well be made-up.

Another answer on the page, by someone without thousands of answers and apparently without an anger-agenda:

I quoted the entire text so that you see that Emotos experiments can be replicated by anyone, privately and independently. If you wish to know truth vs. falsehood, why rely on public “authorities”, why not experiment yourself? All techniques I use in Reality Creation Coaching are refined from real-life-experience with students, not from external sources.

Even so, there is independent scientific research on the water experiments. And I found it at the most unexpected of all places: a website run by the U.S. Government!

Double Blind test of the effects of distant intention on water crystal formation.

So there you have it. “Images were blindly assessed for aesthetic appeal by 100 independent judges. Results indicated that crystals from the treated water were given higher scores for aesthetic appeal than those from the control water“. Isn’t it satisfying to have actual scientific double-blind experiments to back up metaphysical planes? Not because you need it, but just to rub it in the face of “fact checkers” 🙂

But is that any surprise, really? For eons people have been using prayer and intention to influence reality. Did you really think we’d keep doing it if it didn’t have any benefit?

In my life I use word-power, intention and prayer generously every day. I speak blessing on all important appointments and activities, trips, foods, endeavors, encounters, friends, foes, projects. When things are out-of-flow in my daily life, it’s because I’ve forgotten to speak blessings around them. What is the extent of the influence of your words and thoughts? My experience is, that any and everything can be fixed with this power. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes.
