Step 1: Choose how you’d like to feel
Would you like to feel
relaxed
confident
strong
flexible
humble
humorous
creative
light
assertive
graceful
patient
attractive
loving
energized
or something else? Choose one.
Step 2: Imagine how the body moves when you feel this way
Close your eyes and imagine how your body moves when you feel this way or how people in general move when they feel this way. A relaxed person might be on a recliner, eyes soft, breathing slowly, stretching. A confident person might have an upright posture, chin slightly up, eyes steady, hands on hips, conscious movements.
How do your arms and legs behave in this state? How do they swing when you walk? When you talk to others? When you sit? What facial expression, tone of voice and breathing rhythm go along with this state? Visualize in detail.
Step 3: Move the body this way
Now mimic what you visualized. Move the way you imagined. Walk that way, sit that way. Go on for minutes or more.
The more often you move this way, the more your emotional patterns change to adapt to the new way of moving. You will gradually give up negative postures (such as back-bent slouching over a screen all day, holding on to your arm while talking to someone and hundreds of other postures of insecurity).
Your feeling and thinking influence your body and your body influences your thinking and feeling. This is because body and mind are not two things, they are one unit.
