Working as a life and success coach, I like to study the best teachers and mentors and learn from them. One of my favorite of our times is the controversial Werner Erhard who, in the 70s, before anyone else was doing “large group motivational seminars”, pioneered the amalgamation of eastern mysticism, western motivational psychology and intense training. His model of self-improvement has been copied and emulated by many, but he was the original, creating a new paradigm out of nothing. .
Criticized for creating a “brainwashing cult” and being its “guru” he stepped down from public view in the mid eighties and retreated back into privacy.
I call his lectures and talks “classics of reality creation” and recommend them (if you can still find any of them) because of the energy Erhard transports through his voice and words. These are some of my favorite “classic quotes” from his lectures. They speak for themselves and require no comment from me. As usual in my “quotes” series, don’t read them all at once. take one, ponder it for a few hours or days, and then contemplate on the next, etc. Wisdom quotes are not for consumption or information, they are for transformation.
“Love is granting another the space to be the way they are and the way they are not”
“In life you wind up with one of two things – the results or the reason why you don’t have the results. Results don’t have to be explained. They just are.”
“If you keep saying it the way it really is, eventually your word becomes law in the Universe”
“Let’s take a look at the nature of now. What I’ve noticed with the people I’ve interacted with is that everyone who truly experiences right here, right now, actually sees that it’s all perfect exactly the way it is. When I am being myself, nothing more and nothing less – when I am doing exactly what I am doing – when I am allowing what is so around me to be exactly like it is – when I am being right here instead of where I am going – when I am observing it all just as it is without adding any judgments or evaluations or comparing it, then I observe that it is perfect.”
“One creates from nothing. If you try to create from something you’re just changing something. So in order to create something you first have to be able to create nothing”.
If you could really accept that you weren’t ok you, could stop proving you were ok. If you could stop proving that you were ok you could get that it was ok not to be ok. If you could get that it was ok not to be ok you could get that you were ok the way you are. You’re ok, get it?
“Your life works to the degree you keep your agreements”
“Most of our notions about the world come from our set of assumptions which we take for granted, and which, for the most part, we don’t examine or question. We bring these assumptions to the table with us as a given. They are so much a part of who we are that it is difficult for us to separate ourselves from them enough to be able to talk about them. We do not think these assumption, we think from them”.
