"In the spring of 2010 a friend handed me your book Parallel Universes of Self and since a long time I regained interest in spiritual practice.Meanwhile I started involving myself in the subject of lucid dreaming for the first time of my life, not knowing your work with dream worlds. Night after Night I was becoming more and more lucid without any particular exercise.I started remembering 3-5 dreams per night, recognizing dream figures.
The most fascinating figure were pigeons and birds in general. They always appeared when I noticed something was strange or when I knew that I had to change something. For example a white pigeon sat right on my left shoulder while fighting with my ex-girlfriend and suddenly everything became silent, almost stood still - the dreamscape became clearer, brighter and I knew "Something has to be changed"; I started laughing, went out of the room and stepped right into a wonderful garden full of white flowers...
Days after this dream I started crying in real life for no particular reason at all. Moments of energy flowing through my body like I've never experienced before, people complaining or fighting just seemed totally ridiculous; everything seemed beautiful in it's own "thing" - if that makes any grammatical sense. So I talked to a friend about the birds and my emotional state. He then said it reminded him of the movie "American Beauty" and a boy there running around with a video camera. I knew the movie but watched it again and indeed I felt a deep identification with this boy not noticed the first time. In a scene he almost put into words what I experienced... it was something like
"Sometimes there is just so much beauty that it's too much ...too much for me to take and I think I'm exploding".
Back in that state (which was coming and going for about 2 weeks) in awe of things around me, I took a camera and started walking. I was out for 3 hours noticing as many birds as I've never seen my entire life. It was not like "ok they were there before I just now directed attention to them", there were even 2 overrun pigeons in my street.
The next street there were 2 pigeons sitting on the roof of a car, I tried to catch them on photo but they flew away as I unpacked the camera. Same with a white pigeon landing on a little bridge right in front of me. I ended up in a street I did not know.It was in the evening and over the houses was a swarm of birds circling, it must have been 15 of them. And finally on my way home I looked through the window of the apartment of our lodger as his TV showed different kinds of birds- later I found out it was a documentary about parrots.
That had been the most astonishing walk of my life, energy pulsing, sunshine glittering...
Two months later I was at home telling a girlfriend the story and she replied
"This could be random, you know."
I stood up with the intention to bring light in the room - the shutters were still down. View of the garden, a short gaze at the swimming pool and there it was : Right in the middle of the pool, a black bird - just like it flew right into the water with a heart attack or something.I looked into the shocked eyes of my friend and said:
"This could be random, you know".
